Guzman Y Gomez Chooses Bildspec Operable Walls
Bildspec Operable Walls has installed a stunning, Series 100 Rw45 Operable Wall, for food retailer, Guzman Y Gomez (GyG), at their Kippax St, Surry Hills NSW Head Office.
GyG is an Australian multinational retail casual-dining and fast-food restaurant chain and is on a mission to become the biggest and best retail food business in the world. It specialises in high-quality, fresh, clean, Mexican-inspired food.
The operable wall, installed for builder MPA Constructions, included a complicated, custom-designed graphic by GYG and the designer, The Bold Collective. Printed on 3M film and applied on site after panel installation, Bildspec were able to ensure the best possible graphic match from panel to panel. GyG have worked hard to ensure that their brand is authentic to its core, with every detail being carefully thought out and meticulously presented. Consequently, Bildspec was chosen because of their intricate knowledge in dealing with such complex designs and pattern matching. The end result was a great success and reflected true to GyG’s brand aspirations.
The purpose of the wall was to divide two training rooms while allowing an acoustic division between the rooms. The walls therefore allow GYG the flexibility to open both rooms into one larger space when required. Operable walls are traditionally used in similar settings to allow larger spaces to be transformed into flexible environments that suit the training or working style and acoustic requirements of the intended purpose and function of the relevant space.

Natural Ventilation
Exploring the possibilities of natural ventilation and free cooling, we want to offer solutions for natural building ventilation in the most economical way possible. Simply opening a window for fresh air can help create a healthy indoor climate and prevent indoor overheating by passive cooling.
But Reynaers Aluminium takes ventilation one step further. Based on our experts’ findings, we believe that motorising windows, together with your standard HVAC (Heating, Ventilation And Cooling) systems, can raise the indoor air quality drastically. Good ventilation and air purification are crucial in minimizing the airborne spread of COVID-19 in indoor areas, including aged care homes.
To improve your work and living conditions, we focus on solutions that work as stand-alone units or can be linked to a smart home network. Reynaers Aluminium motorised windows for natural ventilation are the same as our other Smart Solutions: concealed, connected and safe to use.

Barrier Security Systems
Residents in residential care facilities experience three times the rate of falls than older people living in the community. The risk factors for falls are considered to be a combination of intrinsic (related to the person) and extrinsic (related to the environment). For residents, moving throughout the facility without having to step over any encumbrances, namely tracks, is imperative.
ATDC supplies a range of barrier security systems which have multiple applications in aged care and retirement community centres.
ATDC’s folding closures, roller shutters and trackless barriers are ideal for use as an access control device and also for security by screening off a multitude of areas such as halls, libraries, eating areas, reception desks and counter tops, canteens and food service areas.
ATDC’s barrier security systems are light, functional and easy to operate. The trackless barriers are OH+S tested for safe operation. Systems such as roller shutters on oversized apertures are often secured by way of electric operation so they can be open and closed at the touch of a button.

Dividing Space
Operable walls are movable acoustic walls which offer varying acoustic properties, which are not only fit for purpose but also highly attractive and user friendly. The benefits of Bildspec operable walls include acoustic properties which in turn provide a temporary privacy solution when required.
In addition to the acoustic benefits, one large communal space can be divided into several smaller spaces. This flexibility translates into increased and varying use of the space as well as allowing for the rationalization of the building equaling a more sustainable and economical building.
The average cycles of change in aged care are five years due to government policy, management and changes in the market. Flexible design should address future trends and changes in patient profile, that is, meeting the increasing demands on space and facilities because of increased patient numbers. Allowing for changes to two spaces such as interlocking rooms is ideal. For example, enabling residents and couples to share spaces with the flexibility that when the division of space is no longer required it can be reconfigured accordingly.
The flexibility that operable walls offer can also significantly lower building costs. Space is at a premium as the demands to do more for less increases. Space adaptability and effective space management is therefore critical.
Over our 50+ years in business, Bildspec have supplied operable walls into many high-quality aged care centres. Bildspec is 100% Australian-owned and all our components and products are locally sourced and made. Bildspec is the oldest and the first operable wall manufacturer in Australia. We have the most operable wall-experienced staff compliment in Australia. Bildspec is the only NSW-based operable wall manufacturer.

Le Prado Marseille-France
Benoy Architects
Ideally integrated in front of the Velodrome stadium and near the Marseille exhibition centre, the Prado shopping centre is an architectural jewel that meets the highest environmental standards. Since its inauguration on March 28th 2018, visitors have been able to discover a tailor-made commercial offer, spread over four floors and under a majestic glass canopy that illuminates the various brands (Galerie Lafayette, Repetto, Jacadi, etc.). A new generation shopping centre that brings a new way of life to a rapidly changing neighbourhood. Due to their quality and performance, two Reynaers Aluminium technical solutions were prescribed and implemented as part of this major project.
Designed by the architectural firms Benoy and Rogeon, this living and shopping centre is inspired by 19th century Italian galleries. A unique building, particularly because of its canopy made of glass and composed of 1,750 panels more than 30 metres above the ground. The latter is placed on a monumental fishnet structure. As raised by the Mistral, its curved shapes partially descend along the façades like boat sails. It allows light to pass through while protecting from the sun.
INTERESTING FIGURES
23,000 m² of commercial space
3,500 m² of glazed facade
20 different plats were planted for the construction of a green wall
800 parking spaces
500 000 visitors / month (forecast)
A living space adapted to the new expectations of users
With its top-of-the-range and trendy offer as well as its dynamic architecture, Prado is a building in the spirit of the times. More than a place of commerce, it is a place of life that brings together in one place housing, offices, shops, a hotel complex and even a health centre. A village in the city. “All spaces (commercial, hotel, train stations and transit, offices…) are now presented as living and convivial places that influence purchasing behaviour,” explains Thomas Faustini, Key Account Manager at Reynaers Aluminium. In order to create an open feeling, very large folding doors (CF 77) were installed. Today, users want to enjoy each building, not only for its primary purpose but also to mix other practices such as recreation, relaxation, sport… In this sense, the shopping centre is particularly challenged because the old-fashioned, closed, noisy shopping gallery with artificial light no longer appeals.
A complex that meets environmental challenges
Prado is part of a sustainable construction approach. Its strong environmental commitment, present at every stage of the project, such as the choice of recyclable building materials and eco-responsible products, makes it the first Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certified shopping centre in Europe. A philosophy that integrates, at all levels of product design, production and reuse, an ecological requirement whose principle is “zero pollution and 100% reused”. Another first, for France this time, Prado meets the criteria for BREEAM environmental performance certification, an excellent level. Finally, this shopping centre is also BBC certified (low-energy building).
“Cradle to Cradle is a certification that reflects a principle of circular economy. It takes into account the ecological impact of materials, their potential for reuse, the use of renewable energies and the reduction of the carbon footprint, water management and the impact of the project in terms of social equity. A principle to which Reynaers Aluminium systems perfectly respond since aluminium is a 100% recyclable material, which offers a long service life. In addition, in terms of quality and performance, Reynaers Aluminium products also participate in the BREEAM certification which assesses the thermal, acoustic and sustainable aspect of buildings. “Thomas Faustini, Key Account Manager at Reynaers Aluminium France.
Smooth and contemporary façades, bold architecture
“All the smooth façades of the Prado shopping centre are made of CW 50-SC. This choice allows the aluminium structure to be visually erased on the outside and to have a smooth finish that highlights the glass volumes,” explains Thomas Faustini, Key Account Manager at Reynaers Aluminium. It is an excellent alternative to glued exterior glazing since the CW 50-SC has thinner spines and therefore a larger glazing clearness, easier assembly, more flexibility and adaptability to buildings and finally, a clear budgetary saving. »
2 technical solutions signed Reynaers Aluminium
– The CW 50-SC curtain wall, with curved glass and very strong corners, for a very smooth, dynamic and resolutely contemporary façade appearance.
– CF 77 folding doors that allow you to open very large windows and promote the feeling of opening to the outside.
The CW 50-SC curtain wall: a high-performance, economical, adaptable and aesthetic solution.
Thomas Faustini, Key Account Manager at Reynaers Aluminium France
A technique – approved by a DTA in 2018 – had already been in use abroad for several years and in France since 2015. For good reason, this system requires less aluminium than VEC curtain walls, and the flush silicone seal increases the waterproofness of the system. It is therefore even more efficient from a thermal and acoustic point of view. Several buildings are already equipped with it, such as the Matmut offices in Rouen, the Passivhaus building with triple glazing and Blédina’s head office in Limonest.

14 Statton St, Brisbane-Setting New Standards for Office Design
LOCATION:
Brisbane, Australia
ARCHITECT:
Rothelowman
FEATURED PRODUCTS:
Piatto™ Collection
Background
Located in Brisbane’s multifaceted suburb of Newstead, the new 14 Stratton Street development sets new standards for office design in the area, while embodying the pioneering spirit, focus on wellness, and importance of culture the district is renowned for.
Positioned just three kilometers from the city’s bustling Central Business District, in calming proximity to the Brisbane River, 14 Stratton Street is a boutique commercial development spanning 11 exquisitely finished floors. Designed by Rothelowman, the new building houses a roof-top, office, and retail spaces, as well as end-of-trip facilities on the ground level—celebrating the industrial heritage and vibrant character of the area, and the region’s subtropical climate.
Challenge
With the design intent behind the development set to communicate Newstead’s unique ambiance, it was paramount for each area of the building to reflect the distinctive combination of wellness, innovation, and elevated style.
As one of the key areas of the new development—both in terms of fostering well-being and providing an entry point into the building—the end-of-trip rooms had to successfully reflect the high-end design language of the project, accommodate the practical nature of the facilities, and create a welcoming, industrial look and feel.
With a refined, clean, and unostentatious aesthetic delineating the higher floors, the ground floor area had to maintain the same level of seamlessness and pared-back quality throughout carefully selected fittings and details.
Solution
ASI JD MacDonald’s continuous commitment to servicing the wider architectural community enabled the team at Rothelowman to seamlessly ensure that the selection of the Piatto™ range was the ideal choice for this project. With its combination of minimalist, yet sophisticated forms and innovative capabilities, the collection of washroom accessories was a fitting addition to the end-of-trip areas.
Elegantly finished in matte black, the dark fit-outs perfectly complement the industrial character of their surroundings and further elevate the polished visual identity of the ground floor facilities. Conspicuously minimalistic, the innovative washroom accessories feature entirely concealed hinges and an internal latching system with no visible hardware. This pioneering product design approach enables the accessories to fit perfectly and completely into the plane of the finished wall, generating spectacularly minimalist lines with no protrusions.
This unique fusion of striking and sophisticated, yet clean and concealed qualities turned out to be the perfect match for the design intent behind the project.
“The design brief for the area was to create a warm industrial space, and the Piatto™ matte black units were selected to complement all of the other fittings and fixtures in the facility,” said Chau Truong, Senior Interior Designer of Rothelowman. “We also really loved how they could be installed flush with the tiles.”
In addition, the high-quality units are easy to install and adjust, and the phenolic doors are designed to close silently, so that the maintenance is effective and completely inconspicuous. This, in turn, ensures that the fitting and replenishment processes are just as seamless as the aesthetic ASI JD MacDonald’s Piatto™ washroom accessories are designed to generate.
No matter where in the world a solution is needed, you can rest assured that the ASI Group will provide you the Peace of Mind, that stems from innovation, quality, experience, and capability.

Sliding Applications in Office Buildings
Company sites are their calling cards. Not just for customers and neighbours. Also for employees and partners. They characterize the first impression that a company makes, and provide plenty of room for efficient use and ergonomic design of working spaces at the same time. Simplicity as an organizational principle.
Office space can be structured and used in an optimum way with sliding technology. The first impression is usually the decisive one. This applies to both the private sphere and corporate life. The design of head offices is becoming more and more of a marked measure of image and identity.
Company-specific and highly functional sliding solutions are implemented both on the façade and inside the building. Be it the design of open space offices, meeting rooms, chill zones, cafeteria or reception areas – sliding technology provides the opportunity to support procedures and the variable use of valuable space in an optimum way.
Whereas spaciousness and representativeness are required on the one hand, the main focus is on cost-effectiveness and functionality on the other.
Regardless of the challenge, sliding solutions provide the right solution in the majority of cases.
